Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about DriveStats.
How does DriveStats calculate fuel costs?
DriveStats uses advanced vehicle physics and standard GPS data to estimate your fuel consumption and trip costs automatically. By analyzing speed changes, elevation shifts, and distance, the engine calculates the mechanical energy required to move your specific vehicle, providing highly realistic estimates without needing external hardware.
Is my driving data kept private?
Yes. DriveStats is 100% private and on-device. All trip tracking, data analysis, and chart generation are processed locally on your iPhone. We do not use servers to track your movements, meaning your driving habits stay strictly between you and your phone.
Does DriveStats require extra hardware like an OBD-II dongle?
No, DriveStats works entirely using your iPhone's built-in GPS. There's no need to buy or install any external OBD-II dongles or hardware in your vehicle.
Does the app track my trips automatically?
Yes, DriveStats features automatic background trip detection. Once enabled, it will automatically log your drives without you needing to manually start or stop trips. It uses Apple's efficient Significant Location Change (SLC) and Geofencing technologies to preserve battery life. Because of how these systems work, tracking may sometimes start after you've driven about 100m to 1km. This is completely normal and expected behavior. In many cases, Geofencing helps trigger tracking even earlier, ensuring your mileage log is seamlessly kept up to date.
Can I customize the dashboard charts in DriveStats?
Yes, DriveStats offers a highly customizable dashboard. You can create widgets to track specific metrics like fuel costs or distance, choose from multiple chart types (Bar, Line, Area), and view data by day, week, month, or year with automatic period comparisons.
How does the trip filter work?
DriveStats features a powerful Unified Filter Engine that works across the entire app. You can filter your driving history, dashboard widgets, and interactive map configurations by specific criteria such as date, distance, duration, location, or day of the week.
What data filters are supported?
DriveStats supports highly granular filtering options including Date (specific dates, ranges, relative periods), Time (Start Hour, Day of Week), Distance, Duration, Location (Start/End points, custom clusters like 'Home' or 'Work', states), Parked Time, custom Tags, and comprehensive Energy filters (Fuel Cost, Consumption Rate, and Fuel Volume).
Can I export my trip logs and mileage?
Absolutely. You can export your full trip history in CSV or JSON formats. This is great for keeping personal backups or generating mileage reports for work and tax purposes.
